Calling All Cybersecurity Professionals!
Become a Mentor in CyberSET 2024

Are you passionate about cybersecurity and eager to make a difference in the lives of aspiring young minds? We invite you to join CyberSET as a mentor and guide high school students who are keen on pursuing a career in cybersecurity. By becoming a mentor, you will have the opportunity to inspire and shape the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

CyberSET
CyberSET provides a range of industry-linked courses at four different levels, aimed at introducing WA students between Years 7 and 10 to the field of cybersecurity, including specialised courses tailored for neurodivergent students. CyberSET offers a structured curriculum, engaging workshops, and ongoing support to equip all students, including neurodivergent individuals, with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital landscape securely.

Industry professionals are invited to exress your interest in providing weekly mentoring for one term in 2024 as part of the program. 

Program Overview:
  • Duration: 5-10 weeks (a school term)
  • Time requirement: 1 to 2 hours per weekly mentoring session
  • Objective: To provide guidance and support to high school students interested in cybersecurity
  • Mentor-Student Ratio: Each mentor will be assigned a small group of students (approximately 3-5)
  • Support: Participants will be supported in the mentoring process

Roles and Responsibilities
As a mentor, you will play a crucial role in the development of these students, sharing your knowledge and expertise in cybersecurity.
Here are some of the key responsibilities:
Guidance and Advice:
  • Share insights and advice on pursuing a career in cybersecurity.
  • Assist students in setting career goals and planning their educational path.
  • Provide recommendations on relevant courses, certifications, and resources.
Skill Development:
  • Help students develop fundamental cybersecurity skills.
  • Offer guidance on practical projects, hands-on exercises, and simulations.
  • Encourage critical thinking and problem-solving within the cybersecurity domain.
Industry Insights:
  • Share your professional experiences and real-world challenges.
  • Discuss current trends, emerging technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Offer valuable insights into various cybersecurity roles and career paths.
Mentorship and Support: 
  • Conduct regular meetings or virtual sessions with mentees.
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance on their progress.
  • Serve as a mentor, offering support, motivation, and encouragement throughout the program.

We welcome professionals from all sectors of the cybersecurity industry to join our program and inspire the next generation of cyber defenders.

CyberSET is a program by Curtin University in partnership with Cisco Systems, Amazon Web Services (AWS), STEMSmart, Trustwave Holding, CyberWest, Women in Technology WA (WiTWA) and Association of Independent Schools of WA (AISWA).
