​About the Hub

CyberWest was established in 2018 as part of the AustCyber Industry Growth Network, and was known as the as the Western Australian AustCyber Innovation Hub.

On 1 March 2023 CyberWest, the WA Cyber Security Innovation Hub, was launched as a state-based Hub. Its mission is to improve the state's cyber security posture, create employment in the cyber security sector, and diversify the economy.

CyberWest is co-funded through the WA Government’s New Industries Fund and Edith Cowan University and City of Joondalup. The team is co-located  in the Joondalup Innovation Hubwith the Cyber Security Cooperative Research Centre, the ECU Security Research Institute, ECU Securing Digital Futures theme leader, and ECU Defence Research at ECU's Joondalup campus.

Cecily Rawlinson
Director

Cecily is a human-centred design practitioner and is passionate about using design thinking to unlock the creative potential of stakeholders and unlikely innovators. She led the CIVICUS team that facilitated the co-design and establishment of 7 regional innovation hubs around the world, launching the Innovation for Change network in 2015. Working with Innovation for Change allowed Cecily to hone her innovation skills and to witness firsthand the global demand for cyber security awareness and training. 
Prior to joining CIVICUS, Cecily began her career at the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and also worked at DCAF - Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance.
Cecily holds a Masters in International Affairs from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) and a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia.

Emma O'Neil
Project and Engagement Lead​

Throughout her career, Emma has had the opportunity to collaborate with exceptional researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs. Emma has cultivated her capabilities working in the innovation community from various perspectives, including government, industry-led innovation hubs, and technology startups. She possesses a wealth of experience across multiple sectors, including resources and energy, life sciences, automation, and software engineering. Emma is particularly passionate about STEM education and enjoys promoting diversity and communicating science and technology with the wider community.
With extensive experience in program management, stakeholder engagement, governance, marketing, and communications strategy, as well as event management, Emma is well-equipped to drive successful outcomes for her clients.

​Industry Advisory Board

The strategic objectives and implementation of the Hub’s workplan is guided by an Industry Advisory Board. The board members are representatives of the cyber security community and reflect the Hub's capability and strengths. Membership terms are for a period of two years.

Pia Turcinov
​IAB Chair

​Pia is an accomplished Executive and Non-Executive Director with broad and strategic experience across a range of industries. She manages a portfolio career, holding a number of advisory positions. With more than 27 years’ experience in industry, she is an active protagonist within the Australian innovation ecosystem. Pia has qualifications in law and business management, and offers a wealth of commercial knowledge gained in the private, public and NFP sectors. She shares her expertise as an innovation champion, mentor, facilitator and public speaker on topics relating to entrepreneurship, technological disruption and STEM. As the mother of three daughters, Pia remains an enthusiastic champion for diversity and enabling women.
